Chapter Ten
“All in all, I think we can afford the new pool. The cubs will love it, especially in the hot summer months,” Alan said.
Thony purred and smiled from where he sat on Alan’s lap. They were both still in their pajama pants and sitting at Thony’s kitchen table, enjoying a light breakfast. After they’d shared their milk shake the day before, Alan had joined him in bed and they’d made up for lost time and cuddled for hours until they’d nodded off. Bliss.
“A pool sounds awesome.” He bit down on a crispy strip of bacon.
Alan trailed his fingers down his spine. “Yeah. With Dji joining the pride and adding ten percent of his wages to our accounts, and some of the other pride members getting better jobs over the last few months, we’re well off.”
Thony moved into Alan’s caress and wiggled his ass. “I’m not into floating through water for hours myself, but I know many people who’d love the opportunity to cool down. Especially the kids.”
Alan grinned. “Hydrophobic, huh?”
“I’m a Persian.” He scoffed. “We loathe water in our cat form, meaning we try to stay clear of big congregations of water even in our human form. I love long showers, but a soak in a tub would be stretching it.” He shuddered at the thought.
“Yeah, I see. Thony?”
“Yes?” When he peeled his gaze off his plate, he found Alan examining him with a curious look on his face. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just something I always meant to ask you, but it never came up before. There’s something about you that always had me wondering.”
“What is it?”
“Well, you’re a Persian cat. Don’t get me wrong, but you look as Persian as I look like a ballet dancer.” Alan waved his hand in front of Thony face. “Look at you. The red hair, jade green eyes, and pale skin. You look Irish, love.”
Finally, the penny dropped, and Thony let out a happy laugh. His cat purred and stretched inside him because Alan showed interest in them. Yes, his other half was a bitch for attention, like most cats.
“You’re such a goof.” He pecked Alan’s lips. “Okay, so, my mom is a Persian cat, too, and has wonderful, long black hair, bronze skin, and the deepest brown eyes I’ve ever seen. My dad, on the other hand, has in fact Irish ancestors. He shifts into a European wildcat, like Viggo. I got my looks from my dad, and my animal from my mom. It confused the folks.”
“Huh. That’s cool, actually.” Alan sounded impressed. “I can’t believe I’ve never asked about that. After all, I know almost everything about your family. How you grew up. How they kicked you out because you’re gay, and how you moved here with Viggo.”
They turned their heads at a chuckle from the door. Viggo was leaning against the doorjamb, arms crossed over his chest. “Now look at that kitty pile, all cozy and in love. Finally. And wonder of wonders, Thony’s eating. Good. You’ve lost weight during the past months.
